FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 7, 2007 CONTACT: Chicago, IL (BlackNews.com) - Author and screenwriter Cheryl Matlock pens
her first published novel Next Time (ISBN-13: 978-0976946809), an intense
romantic relationship story that follows the fictional life of Chicago’s Hyde
Park resident Kahara Jenkins. After a string of short-lived relationships,
financial analyst and up and coming filmmaker, Kahara, gives up on finding Mr.
Right and settles for a one-night stand with Mr. Right Now. However, Next
Time goes beyond the intricacies of exploring the love between a man and
woman, it delves into the astonishing statistic that 70% of Black woman are
single in one way or another, be it divorce, widowed, separation or by choice. Matlock [www.cmatlock.com] notes
that by most standards, being well-educated, professional, financially secure,
physically attractive, heterosexual, and free of prior criminal convictions and
single, automatically makes a person an excellent catch in the dating scene.
That is, if this person is a man. The author comments, “Many successful women
in Corporate America are finding to great dismay that their impressive
credentials are more of a deal-breaker than selling points when it comes to
finding love. This forces some to lower their standards.” The end result is
all too common; women end up settling for less and compromising their principles
just to escape loneliness. Matlock cleverly weaves this state of
affairs in Next Time, where the main character Kahara Jenkins, while
making a choice about which man to pursue, is lead down a path to better
self-awareness. As she climbs up out of the romantic chaos, she emerges to learn
that from destruction and collapse come rebirth and renaissance. Passionate and
descriptive love scenes punctuates this tale of an aspiring filmmaker who learns
to focus, zoom, frame, and shoot just when it matters most-when there is a
chance of capturing something real - something glorious. A native of Chicago and a graduate of
Roosevelt University, Cheryl Matlock’s inspiration to write began in
elementary school and were stimulated by ideas as diverse as horror movies and
jazz music. Through her maturation process, Cheryl’s tales drifted from horror
towards romance and drama. Cheryl has also produced and directed three films.
Her work includes a thought provoking documentary called Keepin It Real,
a spirited comedy entitled Sergio’s Blues and a short film profiling
spoken word artists. She is currently working on another novel and a short film.
Next Time is available at: Borders Books, Barnes & Noble, Underground
Books, Books-A-Million, and Amazon. Cheryl Matlock is available for book
discussion, signings, speaking engagements and seminars. Media Contact: |
